Canyoning is an adventure sport involving descending through canyons or gorges, following the course of rivers and streams. It combines skills such as hiking, climbing, swimming, and rappelling. Participants encounter natural obstacles like waterfalls and rocks during the descent, using specialized techniques to overcome them.
Almofrei has a perfect location for those who want to practice this sport with a low level of demand, making it ideal for beginners and also for families, as it is suitable for children from 9 years old.
This level I ravine is categorized for its simplicity and low technical difficulty. It runs along a simple aquatic path that has pools, a fun and dynamic descent, with a variety of jumps with slides and the occasional rope maneuver in the form of drop-offs, and small rappels for the most intrepid.
You will enjoy without having to have previous experience. It is suitable for families with children, schoolchildren or if you are starting out as a new canyoner. In addition, a qualified guide will give you the necessary material and will give you an explanation to enjoy and carry out the activity safely.
Practice this sport in a natural environment made up of dense vegetation, infrastructure from other times and a beautiful blanket of granite boulders eroded as a result of the passage of the river's strong crystalline waters over millions of years. One of our favorite ravines in the Rías Baixas!

In the Almofrei River section (Pontevedra). Approximately 30 minutes by car from the city of Pontevedra.
Season
Approximately, from the month of May to October. Check availability with emocionday.
The activity center needs a minimum number of participants to carry out the activity.
special conditions
The participant must be in good physical condition, be agile and comply with the following when carrying out the activity:
- Participants must be able to swim.
- Do not suffer from claustrophobia.
- Do not suffer from any heart or bone ailment, dislocation of the upper or lower extremities, chronic injuries or problems in the spine or suffer from epilepsy.
- Pregnant women are not allowed.
- Not be under the influence of narcotics, alcohol, drugs or medication.
- The minimum age is 9 years and minimum heigh 1,40m. (both conditions must be met). Minors will need written authorization from the father, mother or guardian, and to be accompanied by one of them.
Clothes
For safety and comfort the participant must wear:
- Sports footwear, mountain boot type with GOOD SOLE.
- Thermal or lycra t-shirt to wear under the wetsuit. The shirt should always cover the shoulders.
- It is advisable to bring spare clothes and shoes, a swimsuit and a towel.
Weather conditions
For security reasons, sometimes the activity cannot be carried out on the scheduled date due to weather conditions. If the activity cannot begin an alternative date will be offered.
